General Questions

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a practice that uses holistic practices and natural supplements rather than pharmaceuticals to help solve health challenges. In that manner, I am most like a primary care doctor – working with you one-on-one to support your health.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a way of addressing health issues based on ancient Chinese practices. It works to return a body to health by achieving balance.

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture uses specific points on the body to relieve congestion and alleviate pain. Fine needles are the most widely seen use of addressing points in acupuncture, but I also use cupping, focused light, finger pressure, tuning forks, and other methods to activate the body’s natural processes.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

The needles used in acupuncture are smaller in diameter than a human hair. Sometimes you might feel a slight pinch, but very rarely is it painful at all.

Do you take insurance?

Some insurance is accepted for acupuncture. Please check with us for details on this and other insurance questions.

Are you licensed?

The term naturopath is unregulated and may be used by anyone promoting natural therapies with or without clinical education.

A Naturopathic Doctor is an individual who has successfully graduated from one of the 7 accredited medical programs in North America and is eligible to sit for Naturopathic medical boards (NPLEX).

A Naturopathic Physician is a Naturopathic Doctor who holds a license to practice medicine in one of the 21 licensed states.

What are your credentials?

Nadene holds a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL. She has passed the national board exams (NPLEX) which allows her to obtain a license from a state where naturopathic doctors are licensed.

She holds a Master of Science in Acupuncture and is a Licensed Acupuncturist in the state of Illinois. She also is a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of Illinois.

What is the difference between naturopathic doctor and naturopath?

The terms used in naturopathic medicine are not yet standardized as licenses and regulations differ from state to state. The most important factor to getting quality care is to check the credentials of the individual you’re seeking treatment from. If they have passed national boards and are licensable (or are licensed in a state), they are comparable to a medical doctor.
